UWAJIMA CASTLE
Viewed from Uwajima Bay, Uwajima Castle is said to resemble an elegant crane, which gave rise to its alternate name, 'Crane Island Castle.'
Untouched for centuries, the castle tower remains one of only twelve in all of Japan that date back to the Edo period.
From its vantage point, it overlooks the Uwakai Sea, a surrounding mountain range, and the quaint city of Uwajima.
The castle hill is a treasure trove of stone walls from various periods and the reigns of different lords, as well as over 300 species of plants that bloom throughout the year, ensuring that each visit is a unique experience.
