    凸凹 - Taga-Jinja Shrine

A unique shrine themed around sexuality that offers a glimpse into the deep culture of Uwajima.

    Taga Shrine

    TAGA-JINJA SHRINE

This shrine is not only believed to be the oldest in the entire Nanyo region but also one of the most unique. For over a millennium, it has served as a sacred place of worship for the god Izanagi-no-mikoto who with his beloved goddess Izanami-no-mikoto, are the creators of the Japanese islands. Within the shrine grounds, a museum was established to house a remarkable collection of thousands of artifacts related to fertility religion and sexual folklore from around the world. The exhibits range from ancient Egyptian amulets to Shunga art crafted by renowned Ukiyo-e masters.

    Recommended Points

At the museum entrance's souvenir shop, you'll discover truly unique items that will bring surprise, smiles, and laughter to their recipients. Of course, talismans for protection and luck are also available here.

For uncountable generations, visitors—especially women—have prayed at Taga Shrine for health, longevity, fertility, love, and safe delivery. What will you wish for during your visit?

On the temple grounds next to the main shrine, you'll find an impressive wooden sculpture you shouldn't miss. Many people have taken photos with this "symbol," believing it will bring them luck if they believe hard enough.
